Therese James has been painting and exhibiting for 15 years.  She is a naïve artist who works from a compulsion to recreate what she sees and feels.

"I hope my paintings tell you a story, bring back a memory or raise a smile – most of all I hope they make you feel…

Lots of my paintings reflect people or places that make me smile and feel empathy towards the subject.  It is the way I like to see the world, a halfway house between ‘life’ and my imagination.  I recreate life into the cosy quirky way I like to see it.

There is something quite wonderful about watching an ordinary autumn afternoon:  Fading light and school children spilling over the streets

Wiry dogs and scary cats blowing around with the leaves

Old women with bright tams ad shopping trolleys brimming with shin beef and carrots.  Buses full of people going somewhere and nowhere

Animated old men chatting on street corners.  The glow of light escaping through the unclosed afternoon curtains.  Smoke escaping from chimneys.  And I see it all as it unfolds into my next painting."
